The museum is operated by volunteers from the Northern Mill Engine Society, who have rescued and restored 30 of the old stationary steam engines, which once powered the cotton mills of North of England, including 5 built in Bolton. It has the largest collection of working steam mill engines in the UK, and probably, the largest in the world.
Not only can you go and see magnificent examples of Victorian engineering restored and running once again, you'll find lots of information panels, a showcase of mini steam engine models, a TV showing historical footage, as well as a cafe serving hot drinks and snacks on a 2nd floor.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
